Apical ballooning syndrome: an important differential diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction.

چکیده

Case presentation: A 60-yearold woman presented to the emergency department 2 hours after the onset of severe retrosternal chest pain that started soon after she was told that her son had died in a car accident. A 12-lead ECG demonstrated ST-elevation in the precordial leads (Figure 1), and the plasma troponin T level was elevated at 0.07 ng/mL. A diagnosis of acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction was made, and the patient was admitted for emergency coronary angiography, which revealed normal coronary arteries. The left ventriculogram showed severe systolic dysfunction involving the mid and apical segments (Data Supplement Movie I).

Apical ballooning syndrome (Tako-Tsubo or stress cardiomyopathy): a mimic of acute myocardial infarction.

Apical ballooning syndrome (ABS) is a unique reversible cardiomyopathy that is frequently precipitated by a stressful event and has a clinical presentation that is indistinguishable from a myocardial infarction. We review the best evidence regarding the pathophysiology, clinical features, investigation, and management of ABS. The incidence of ABS is estimated to be 1% to 2% of patients presenti...

Differential diagnosis of suspected apical ballooning syndrome using contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging.

AIMS The apical ballooning syndrome (ABS) is a new diagnostic entity which is increasingly recognized. Precise magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data are not yet available and there is little evidence for the differential diagnosis of ABS assessed by MRI. METHODS AND RESULTS Between January 2005 and January 2008, 6100 consecutive patients with diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome underwent lef...

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy: the challenging diagnosis in clinical routine.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is rapidly reversible heart failure syndrome that usually mimics the symptoms of acute myocardial infarction with the characteristic regional wall-motion abnormalities (classically with a virtual apical ballooning caused by hypokinetic or akinetic apical or midventricular myocardium and hypercontraction of the basal segments) and absence of obstructive coronary artery d...

Tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy

Tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy (transient left ventricular apical ballooning) is a reversible form of cardiomyopathy of unknown etiology. Tako-tsubo Cardiomyopathy (TTC) is typically precipitated by sudden emotional or physical stress, and is associated with excessive sympathetic stimulation and catecholamine release. Its clinical presentation is similar to that of acute coronary syndrome. The diagn...

Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy: A Case of Persistent Apical Ballooning Complicated by an Apical Mural Thrombus

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC) is an infrequent cardiac syndrome characterized by acute onset chest pain with apical ballooning on echocardiography. It is often triggered by severe emotional or physical stress, and in contrast to acute myocardial infarction (AMI), the regional wall motion abnormality returns to normal within days. Here, we describe a 62-year-old female who presented with acute ...
